This is insane...it either shorts the connector or makes it a big*ss antenna...or both.

Nothing is shorted at all. It simply works by rolling an extra bit of wiring into a loop and reconnecting into the same lug it is attached to. Very weird, but it DOES have an effect. Does act like an antenna in a way. I've seen weirder things in Audio
This can never be shorting anything. A short occurs when current goes through an an unintended path in a circuit normally with little electrical impedance. Think of the amp binding post. If the binding post is beefier and taller, that does not create a short.

I have a couple pairs of these. I don't understand how or why they do what they do.
