Probably at age 76 my hearing is not what is was 40 years ago, but I have an MX130 with a MAC3 DAC. The MX130 was built before digital surround sound was "ready for prime time" (which is why they did not build the MAC3 until later).
The MX130 will "synthesize" 5.1 from analog stereo (same as MX118). But to me the synthesized 5.1 from analog is not as clear as just regular stereo. When you mix digital signals in, so much depends on cable (75 ohm vs toslink), which chips are in the DAC, how the original digital was produced, etc. My answer is try the suggestions in the thread (to the extent you can) and go with what sounds best to you. Thanks, Jim |
