I humbly disagree. A quality car battery can be useful for several years to a decade or more if maintained properly.

Properly means;

1) not severely discharged then recharged (deep cycled) unless it’s specifically designed to do so (car batteries aren’t designed for this).

2) not overcharged (basically boiling off the electrolyte)

3) not allowed to drop below 12.30 volts since sulfation will occur. Sulfation is probably the number one cause for battery failure. The use of a float charger (Battery Tender is a great brand) to maintain your battery will allow a long useful life - especially when below freezing temperatures.
