I remember reading about Sir Nicholas Winton. He was a true saint in his work of saving the Jewish children under 17 whose parents mostly perished in concentration camps later on. Britain agreed to take them in as long as they had a place to stay and a 50 British pound deposit for their eventual return. Sadly not many countries wanted to help except for Britain and Sweden and even F.D.Roosevelt also refused their entry... 2000 more could have been saved according to Sir Winston.
