I didn't have any issues with the VTA or setup. My issue was simply what I felt to be a sonic incompatibility. The combination of Jade and Universal 12" was dark sounding; lacking the sparkle and dynamic pop provided by the Graham Supreme pairing. However my Universal matches superbly with a Shelter Harmony (maybe there is something to the carbon-fiber matching there?).
My Universal has VTA2, but I'm surprised you're having such issues. Sounds like you need an arm-board pod of a different height (Clearaudio makes them in different heights for this reason), but the pod height initially provided should have facilitated a wide adjustment range. Also note that if you add a ring clamp and center weight, it will significantly change your necessary VTA height because these push down on the platter's magnetic suspension quite a bit.
