MM (Moving Magnet) cartridges work with MM phono stages; MC (Moving Coil) work with MC phono stages (some high output MC will work on a MM stage). Your C2600 has both and is quite good for a built-in stage. Before venturing out to an outboard phono stage get to know your McIntosh one. Not all cartridges work with all tonearms. Cartridge compliance and tonearm effective mass play a big part in matching the two. I would suggest you start with a MM cartridge since you are just getting back into vinyl, do your research on MC cartridges and enjoy the hobby.
