I forget whose audio equipment he had, but at dinner parties, Don Rumsfeld would regularly complain about how his remotes would wind up launching ICBMs.
My take away was always that there are too many shared frequencies, and there's no substitute for tactile interaction with the component itself, so I've shunned remotes.
