I think your logic for the 800D not coming up for sale nearby very often, is sound, I managed to buy my 802D2's locally second hand. My little tuppence is that the drivers are hugely different between the 2 series, as are the crossovers. Now you can get the 802D2's home for a demo in your room against the 800d1 and let us know if the marketing hype is real. Congrats on a great speaker! I find the most impressive thing about my 802d2's is the driver integration top to bottom, I have heard more "hi-fi" speakers i.e.. exaggerated top end which sounds more "airy" and detailed initially, until you try and pick the instruments out and the piano sounds like an electric piano. For me tonal accuracy is of utmost importance. Somehow B&W voice their speakers beautifully, I have the 805 signature's as well, now that's got beautiful cabinetry!!
