The challenge of a system in a shared space is that both of you need to like both the sound and the appearance. Convincing your wife to go along for auditions is a good start. My wife came with me to audition Wilson, SF, and a couple of others, and thankfully we both have similar tastes, so we easily agreed on the look and sound of our Amati Futuras. As Marc points out, there are lots of options out there. Getting your wife engaged in the process will help.
