From what I recall, the X also uses USB Audio Class 2.0 compliant interfaces.
So it is less of an issue if you have a Linux based music server. The older models didn't work with Aurender and similar devices initially until Esoteric provided a driver.
Also handy if you use a Mac and want to use Integer/Direct modes in PureMusic or AudirvanaPlus
