The ST-2 when vertical is omnidirection. In an urban setting this may result in too much multipath distortion. It can be converted to a "directional" antenna by using it in a horizontal orientation with the axis of the whip perpendicular to the direction of the station you are trying to pick up. Varying degrees of oblique orientations wll be "semi-directonal" I believe. In my location, near downtown Vancouver, BC neither a 4 element Yagi nor an 9 element Yagi improved reception of the two stations I listen to. Thankfully, both are broadcast off the same tower on a local mountain so using the ST-2 in "directional" mode works well.
