That is my understanding as well. It seems to allow a Surround processor to manage the output of the sub when you want to use it for TV/movies and bypass a two Channel setup for example. I am not using it with a surround processor so can’t confirm however.
I haven’t read anything in the manual and don’t think the CR-1 has an accommodation like you asked about.
