I found out today my audioquest mackenzie cables have a flaw, I don't know if it affects sound quality enough to matter, but it does send a different level of signal to the amp meters. The right side shows more power in the amp meter; swapping the L and R cable makes the left side show more power.
You might/probably have one defective cable. If one conductor (hot or cold) is not attached (loose connection, bad solder joint etc), you lose 6 dB of signal level (half the voltage).

Open the XLR connectors and inspect the wiring at both ends on the cable that is low in level compared to the other one.
