Here is my new rack before staining. I've always been a "make it heavy duty" type, but Mein Gott, this thing is massive. Barring intense seismic activity, it's not going to move much. I hope it doesn't look ridiculous when finished and installed in the listening room. The idea was to make it sort of industrial chic to match the Audio Research components. My wife rolls her eyes.
Kind of hard to see, but it's all oak butcher block construction, including the legs, with four big hoggy screws per side on each shelf hidden by buttons, in addition to the glued dado joints. The woodworker did a nice job on it, but was glad to get it out of his shop--I'm sure moving and constructing the beast was a never-again experience for him. I'm going to get a taste of
that when I do the Danish oil finish--a stout nephew will help wrestle it around. Hopefully it will be done and in use by November.
