The safe distance is less than 5m. It mightn't sound as good at longer lengths, which is more the issue. There are optical converters (I have one) so you can go waaaaay longer if needed.
A lawyer would say moot, but mute sounds very pertinent for USB3
I haven't seen any DACs using USB3, and think it may be an issue with Async code, although in theory USB 3 is asynchronous. But the extra bandwidth brings no benefit to audio. But I could be (and often am) wrong!
