I recall reading somewhere that Audio Research considered SACD a flawed format so they were not supporting it in their players. I don't know whether that's really the reason their players don't do SACD or whether they made that up as a justification for not including SACD playback.

I never made the leap to SACD because of the limited selection of titles that I would actually buy. I have around 2000 conventional CD's, almost all of which are not available in SACD. On the other hand, the selection of HD music files that you can download is getting fairly decent, and these formats are supported by the DAC inputs of the CD9. It's so easy to buy and download HD files online and play them back from my laptop into the DAC inputs of the CD9.
