When I owned B&W 805s I ran my speaker cable inside the stand. One additional reason is no snag. Also not 'hanging' weight either. With cable from floor to speaker back, the entire weight of the cable hanging is on the connector. With using the inside the stand, that weight is carried by the stand (or can be arranged to be carried by it) And since one usually is looking at the speakers when playing music, the cable hanging off outside, is kind of a distraction.
The downside is changing the cable is harder.
I agree the difference in length is typically not sonically important. And depending on price.. not a lot of difference there.
