It's all subjective. You should try and give them both a listen.
Most high end shops will have them both (and may even have demo d2s on hand).
Also, most retail listening rooms I have been to are small spaces.
I my opinion the 800's enter the territory of "good enough".
Like they say in automotive: "there's no replacement for displacement".
