Hdmi socket is used on some transports and dacs without hdmi labeling to avoid licensing (which is really expensive). These devices use the hdmi socket but they are completely different electrically. For example PS Audio is one of them. They call it i2s connection. McIntosh uses a similar electrical output but used a din connector instead. The idea is to send data, bi-phase and clock signals separately (and balanced) hence needing 3 pairs or conductors and a neutral/ground.

Oppo uses the actual hdmi format and sends dsd over hdmi or dsd over pcm over hdmi. It is not possible to convert the din output of the mcintosh transport to actual hdmi format without an electrical interface box. You need a matching mcintosh dac to take advantage of this connection.
