I think XM is rather secretive about its bandwidth allocations, audio processing and bitrates - it's a proprietary, closed platform, so it can get way with that. If I had to guess, the stream uses a VBR that probably doesn't exceed 256 kpbs.

But it's not just a question of bitrate. It's obvious from comparing the stream to the satellite that the processing online is much, much less than the radio signal. That makes perfect sense, of course, because the satellite bandwidth is so limited.
