One only has to think about the mechanics of the "precise" orbital rotation of the moon around the earth so that it is always perfectly aligned with only one side towards us. Quite possible in a perfect circular orbit. Not so much with an elliptical orbit without a force slowing it down and speeding it up to keep the alignment.
The Moon is also slowly drifting away from the Earth year after year and yet the alignment... Next time you gaze up at the moon, think about that and the poor cotton sprout...
