Thanks for the detailed answer bob! I shouldn’t need to clock more than two sources (transport and music streamer) and then also the dac.

Addressing the first part of your comment Aditya -- Master and word clocks are used synonymously when they aren't. If you have more than 1 digital source requiring external timing, you will decide which gets the master and other sources will feed as clock slaves. These days with multiported outputs, port 1 is normally considered the master and the other available output ports as slaves.

Word clocks are normally BNC ports in a hopefully perfect square or sine wave running at the sampling rate; i.e., 44.1kHz which is the most common standard or 48.1kHz (and other customized variables). Perfect being jitter free.
