Battery life of a UPS depends on a few things:

First, consider the desired run-time after you lose mains power. Are you using the UPS for protection only and expect to shut down the load relatively soon after you lose power, or will you continue to watch tv or listen to music on battery-power for hours? Depleting a battery more than 50% regularly will shorten its life span. Also, It's a good idea to evaluate criticality of the application where you are using the UPS. If deemed critical or long run times are required, batteries should be proactively changed out every 2-4. If not very critical, they can last several years.
