Doug...I had 5 of these and they worked great for a few years. Then when they started going out, I learned a great deal about them. Having sent them to McIntosh and multiple other repair places including Panurgy which is where McIntosh will tell to send yours, the first thing that you need to do is have the power supply rebuilt. The capacitors used on it is what lead to Escient going out of business. Once the power supply has been rebuilt, you can test the rest. Normally, the power supply failing means crazy voltages sent to the hard drive, motherboard, and CD ROM drive. What I found that worked best was to have Ft Worth Audio rebuild the power supply, then I installed a new hard drive and reloaded the operating system. Once that was done, everything else seemed to work fine. If you don't rebuild the power supply, it will take out the rest of the components in the unit and render it into a brick.
