Not actually used "in vinyl". It is in the production chain prior to pressing the vinyl. A "lacquer LP" is cut and then a metal transfer LP is made which is used to press the vinyl LP. No lacquer then no metal 'negative' and no vinyl LP. The DMM process, which was used primarily in Europe, has never caught on due to sonic degradation. My guess is that the NA companies will eventually get together and produce their own lacquers (in a building with a sprinkler system).

Apollo also manufactured the cutterheads and stylus systems used to cut the lacquers, so that is another part of the production chain that must be made-whole again.
