As I just posted on one of these other, older threads, I am very close to pulling the trigger on either the Ypsilon Phaeton or the DarTZeel CTH 8550. Both sound phenomenal driving my YG Hailey loudspeakers.

Curious though, when I read some of the AA comments about the dTZ 8550 it makes me wonder, “what am I missing when I am listening that others seem to hear (or not hear, as the case may be)?” Many of these comments date from when this thread was originally posted, but I thought that dTZ had made some improvements to the 8850 a couple of years ago to correct some its shortcomings – or am I wrong?

Nevertheless, the Ypsilon completely distances itself from my current Ayre KX 5/20 and VX 5/20 combo in terms of the rich warmth that class A sound provides.

Since both are priced fairly comparably and sound pretty great I am in a bit of a quandary about which way to go.
