Overall, I find the D100 to have a thinner less robust sound. I wouldn't call the D100 bright, but it is definitely less forgiving than the Wyred on some material. However, on piano material such as Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, or Hiromi, I prefer the D100 as I feel it is closer to the real sound of a piano which can sometimes be bright. I felt the Wyred smoothed out some of the natural rawness of the piano. I also felt this was true with acoustic guitar material. I preferred vocals on the Wyred which provide Mark Knopfler and David Johansen with robust full voices which were a bit thinner sounding than I prefer on the D100. I think some may find the Wyred less fatiguing over extended listening sessions, but maybe not as true to the source as the D100.

I would say they are both great DACs with my preference being the Wyred for Rock and female vocals, and the D100 for piano and acoustic guitar. I think the Wyred really excelled on cymbals and drums, with the cymbals really sounding like cymbals instead of bacon frying and snare drums being crisp sounding. On the flip side the D100 when listening to Ottmar Liebert seemed to convey a sense of speed when running the scales that I didn't noticed as much with the Wyred.

As you can probably tell I seem to like them both and cannot figure out which one to keep, but in the end there can only be one so I will keep listening until I can decide. Enjoy!
jrsub.....these are very interesting comparisons. I don't recall at the moment-how long did you say you have owned your DAC-2 DSDse?

The DAC-2 DSDse is very definitely a VERY full-bodied and robust sounding DAC. I love it. I have listened to some piano pieces and thought it sounded excellent...though I haven't listened to a ton of piano material as yet.

Also, just curious what type of transport are you using?
