This is a great topic. I am very critical of today's music and I have a tough time finding stuff I like. I have a variety of methods, with varying degrees of success.
1. Find someone with similar tastes and bounce ideas and discoveries with them. I do this with my two brothers, who are pretty much into music with similar tastes. They are NOT audiophiles.
2. Look at what people are listening to here, and give it a shot
3. RMAF rooms...pay close attention when you visit a show and take notes of new stuff you like.
4. Spotify or Tidal poking around: I sometimes will just sit around with my ipad and listen to stuff for hours (on the ipad!) trying to find something that is good enough to add to my favorites and listen on the stereo.
