Yes some very creative marketing of amplifier power output but there weren't any well defined standards at the time. And we had both schools of thought of peak versus average power.

The Phase Linear which advocated an unregulated power supply to handle very high instantaneous power peaks and the Bose 1801 power amplifier that had tightly regulated power rails. Remember the Bose amplifier? Personally I preferred the Phase Linear's at the time but who knows how I would react to it today given several decades of experience. I may look for one online and give it a go just out of curiosity.

I sometimes wonder if some entrepreneurial soul had the desire and dedication to build an audio museum where some of the landmark audio products could be preserved and displayed?
