I too wanted the 402 until I heard the MA9's. The 402's strengthes and weaknesses can be attributed to the autoformer. It makes the amp bullit-proof and contributes to its warm and romantic character. However its down side is the output impedance, about 40 ohms, which is very high compared to most S/S amps. This is why the 402 doesn't take control of your woofers like the MA9-S2. The MA9's output impedance is about 0.1 ohms, giving far greater control and output current.
