I am so sorry that this happened to you. I've been in your shoes, so I know that the well-intentioned advice here to get a security system or large dogs isn't helpful right now. Rather than offer you counsel, I'll just extend to you my empathy for such a horrific experience. And even if your insurance company is first class - and mine was extremely honorable to work with - it will still be a nuisance that you have to manage.
