Life is too short to worry about “what if scenarios” and has a way of throwing curve balls that eclipse all other small concerns such as a pair of speakers.
Living on the West Coast isn't going to prevent me from owning a pair of stand mounted speakers if I prefer their sound over the others I've tried and if the 'big one' does hit in my lifetime, my speakers would be the least of my worries. My concern is for the smaller quakes that happen every couple of years that do a slight amount of damage, like shaking speakers off of stands.

Museum wax is a necessity around here.
