Sorry havent responded here in awhile. Dan, yes, the SP3 is right up there as a contender. Only concern is complete lack of EQ, which my second contender has (the Krell S-1200). I think either of these will give me an excellent one-box solution: a top notch HT processor and an excellent preamp and DAC.
I really want the great built-in DAC since, as good as my Salons are now with the MC452, after a lot of listening, everyone in my family has come to the conclusion that we prefer using the sub (Velodyne Optimum 12) along with the Salon 2s. The added bass foundation is not subtle.
So the Bryston and Krell are really the only options (Classe SSP800 is very good too, but it supposedly runs very hot, which i dont want).
