There is no doubt that the spindle record weight is has a significant impact on the sound of vinyl. I have 3 different record weights on my VPI rim drive HRX. One custom made ebony, one HRX center weight and one Stillpoints LP 1. In almost all circumstances, the LP 1 stays on my table because, among other things, it dampens vibration of the vinyl which would otherwise travel up the stylus ---sort of like a poor man's vacuum hold down. Check out the underside of the LP 1 to see how this is accomplished. It does not dampen the sound of the LP but it does keep any tizzyness from invading the high end and ultimately makes my records sound more natural in all respects. My favorite turntable tweak.
