One review from anyone, commercial or otherwise, is not necessarily a good indicator. It's only when you have a good number of reviews from different sources that meaningful results can be drawn.
That said, Stereophile reviews are (IMHO) more reliable than most other mag reviews, simply because they allocate (where possible) the review samples to reviewers who have extensive experience with the brand, and usually a familiarity with previous iterations of the products under review. I think it works well for the brand as well as the prospective customers, of whom many will be established customers with an upgrade itch waiting to be scratched.
