[QUOTE=psh;847382]Is there a difference between Westminster and Westminster Royal? The reason I ask is because I've seen pictures of the Royal and the nameplate on the bottom of the speakers say Westminster Royal. The ones my father in law has only say Westminster on the nameplate.

Thanks for the tip on the cable upgrades. Will have to consider that in the future!

Here are the production dates & the basic differences (I have more info at home & will up-date tonight):

The Versions made are:

Westminster (1982) - Driver 3839W Soft Foam Surround, wooden 'switch' controls, 1027 Crossover.

Westminster R (1988)- same Driver, Metal 'screw-in' controls, otherwise same as above.

Westminster Royal (1989) Larger Cabinet, Type 3889W Driver, Hardwired Crossover Type 1109.

Westminster TW (1992-1998 produced in parallel with the Westminster Royal) Low Cost version of the 'R' with 'tulip wave-guide instead of 'pepperpot' guide. Driver 3858- not an alnico!, Hardwired Crossover Type 1131.

Westminster Royal HE (1999) 'Hard Edged Driver 3839W, Hardwired Crossover type 1083. Bi-Wire binding posts.

Westminster Royal SE (2007) As above but soft edged, Improved Crossover, Improved build quality, Earth Grounding post added.

Westminster Royal GR (2013) Higher quality cross-over & binding posts (WBT's- still the cheaper versions!), new driver cone has a different impregnation (synthetic) materials with 'twin roll' surrounds, less 'paper'. Black speaker covers, re-positioned 'key' to remove covers.
