Or quite a bit of fun! I've found a number of reputable resources for very rare and not so rare tubes over the years and with a bit of a collection and three different tube testers have even become a bit of a resource myself on occasion.

I also need to secure a pair of 6189WA, or equivalent 12AU7/5814A, for the future. Luckily, the signal tubes (line stage or phono stage) last for very very long
I've 1959 NOS Tung Sol 6X4 tubes as well as Mazda 1960 6189WA, NOS Mullard and Amperex 1958 12AU7, as well as some 1954 and 1955 Hytron / CBS and Raytheon bent square getter 5814... all of which are standing by.

The Jeff Day review on my particular version Monbrison mentions it implementing 12AU7 and 12AT7 tubes in addition to the 6X4 and ECL84 tubes. While my unit did indeed have the last two mentioned tubes present inside, I found Philips 5814A of 1980s vintage where I expected to find the 12AU7 and 12AT7. As you mentioned, the 5814A is an optional replacement for the 12AU7 but I cannot explain the 12AT7 reference.

Thank you, Cellindo.
