I have realized what was wrong, and now the sound is the best I have ever heard through this system.
You probably will not believe my stupidity as such, and I swear I adjusted the clock as directed, but it may be that we have poltergeists out here in the boonies of Michigan.
The clock was set to 75-ohms - when it was reset to 50-ohms and the frequency adjusted slightly, the result is spectacular!
