The speakers that I've heard in this range that I liked and would recommend auditioning were the YG Acoustics Carmel 2, the Magico S5, and the Vandersteen 5A Carbons. I recently heard both the Carmel 2 and the Magico at the Newport THE show in May. The Carmel 2 had an outstanding soundstage, truly impressive for a 2 way speaker. The only limitation was less extension into the bass than some of its competitors. I've heard Magicos set up well and not so well, but the S5s were in good form at the Newport show. The Vandy 5A carbons were not there, but the 7 MkIIs were there and were a candidate for best sound in show in my opinion. (But at >$60k, not within the same price range as the others). Good luck.
