The MC 402 and MC 452 have completely different circuit designs. The MC 402 and the 602 that I have are balanced designs whereas the MC 452 is quad balanced, lowering the already low distortion and further reducing noise. Both are great amplifiers.

I think I remember reading somewhere that in the MC452, by "Quad Balanced" they mean that each channel has a balanced amp, one handling the positive voltage, the other the negative, combined in the autoformer. I'm certainly not an electronic engineer, so I'm not 100% sure this is correct. But I think that's one of the differences between an MC402 and MC452.
