I too love the monitor + subs approach. The ultimate in flexibility and bass response optimization. I run the TAD CR1's with a pair of REL G1's crossed over at 20Hz (resulting in a nicely flat response to 15Hz).
Do you measure you run to confirm the sub integration? IMO this is the only way to do it right.
