Default Speakers are sympathetic

A few years ago when I bought my Vandersteen Quatro Wood CT speakers, my dealer tipped me off to something Richard V told him. Get other speakers out of the room if you want the best sound possible out of the speakers connected to your system.

I've come to experience that this is true. Having speakers - especially ones with large woofer cones, in the same room will have their cones moving in reaction with the sound waves impinging on them. This has the effect of muddying the bass notes in terms of incisiveness and tonality. I've found this in turn affects the overall clarity and vividness of the sound and soundstaging. So if you desire the best possible sound, Richard V is right. Get other speakers out of your listening room.
