Default My system suddenly took a turn for the worse

I was really in the mood to do some listening today. My wife was gone for the day and my daughter who is here for 6 weeks went off with a friend. I had the house by myself.

I turned everything on and let it warm up a bit while downing two cups of Malibar Gold espresso.
I put in a CD and while the music was there it sort of sounded like a lot of it was gone. In moderate panic mode I switched to streaming thinking maybe my transport was dying.
Same thing. I didn't know what to do so I headed back to the kitchen to make a third cup of espresso. As I headed back in to tackle the bad sound I saw the problem.

I had left my speaker covers on.

Sometimes the easiest fix turns out to be the simplest.
