The shag actually helps break-up the bright images from the JVC Laser projector that shine off the floor surface and back to the screen.
Think of it this way as an example.
If a person had BRIGHT White carpet how it would act as a Reflective surface to feed-back to the screen.
Same-thing applies to the red carpet versus the Shag Deep-Black that doesn't feed-back to the screen.
