Since your journey sounds a bit like mine. I have gone through many phono stages... and been disappointed a lot I am at the AR PH8 now, but realize my turntable still has more to give, but is being held back by my phono stage. It is amazing, but the phono stage is really, really really really really important. That's my 2 cents.

For now I'm just going to wait for my ECP-1 to show up and listen to that for a long long time (I hope)
I think I'm now going to spend my money on vinyl and less on hardware
