Britt.......The simple action of removing a plug from a receptacle and plugging it back in provides fresh, clean contact points. The metal to metal friction between the plug blades and the receptacle contacts scrubbing against each other negates the entire concept of polishing plug blades, in my opinion. This is exactly why I unplug and reconnect my AC plugs and all audio interconnects at both ends at least once a year as preventative maintenance, thus providing fresh contacts between the conductive surfaces.
