Redid the Rega turntable. Added another Walnut under a CD transport. Took back the IKEA butcher blocks I bought. IKEA was very good about taking them back.
The sound has improved due to adding the butcher blocks. I would say more tube like in away. slightly warmer richer sound.
Usually stuff that makes the sound warmer, detracts from the treble clarity. Not so the butcher blocks.
If I had some to do over, I would skip more of the smaller Maple, and buy larger Walnut ones.
I just ordered two more Walnut in 22" by 16" by 1 3/4. the 22" is the width of my rack, so they should just fit. I will see if they sound any better than the 17" by 14" that I had there.
My biggest wish is to have enough vertical room to continue to double up components as I had AND have each one resting on a butcher block.
I am trying to do some daydreaming about how I best can arrive at such a resolution.
