Part of the responsibility of being a pet owner is knowing that your pet is still a wild animal and has instincts. It appears instinct took over here and some trauma has remained (PTSE). Like any other PTSE case you have to slowly ease them back...there might be a little regression when the trauma trigger is reintroduced so be patient.

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble nevertheless, nobody likes it when their pets stray from their usual selves. Good luck!
I would never think of putting my Mother down as well, no matter how much of a pain in the ass she can be sometimes. Jayson, good for you
