For me, all audio publications are read as entertainment. John Atkinson's "Measurements" sections in Stereophile reviews generally capture more of my attention than the reviewers' copy. None of the audio mags, not Stereophile, The Absolute Sound, Tone Audio, HiFi+, or others I periodically read are considered references for a purchase. That task requires my ears, something no publication is capable of exciting. I have subscribed to plenty of audio magazine, even as far back as High Fidelity, Stereo Review, and Audio. I have enjoyed many hours of relaxing reading, perusing the colorful advertisements, and being motivated by record reviews to try new music, but no publication reviews served as a catalyst for equipment purchases. Most of my exposure to gear I ultimately purchased came from exposure at friends homes, dealer show rooms, and audio shows. When it comes to audio my experience has been hearing and seeing is believing, not reading.
