It was a while ago, but I think from memory VTL mono's though not sure what model. Several iterations and models of Pass Labs though all sounded boomy and slightly muddled though.
I should point out the listening room itself was far from perfect and IME generally the Salon's are not a boomy speaker by any means. That said, some amps definitely give you a more dynamic and better defined bass than others. For example, a pair of Levinson 53's were excellent in that regard, even though they were less than stellar at higher frequencies.
